Seiko/Citizen Watch Collection

A brief note on my collection. I began to create it seriously in 2000. Before that I only owned the Kinetic. My obsession began with the TV screen Seiko 5. I saw it in a mom and pop watch repair shop and had to have it. I paid too much, but it did come with the original box and booklet. It was unmarked, truly LNIB. After that I started looking on Ebay, and as you will see below the collection has grown substantially. I started with just vintage Seiko’s but lately have added many recent models.

In 2003 I decided to make some changes. I got rid of some of the watches that didn’t seem to get much wrist time. Some of my watches I don’t think I will ever really be able to sell or trade away, but you never know. I added one of the watches that were on my wish list on the last webpage. Take a look at my wish list page, its like a peek into the future. While my Gone Watch is a look at the past.

First … the one and only Citizen.

Stainless Steel Citizen Eco Drive Tough GMT, it is water resistant to 200M and sports an Oris style rubber strap. This watch is extremly accurate gets its power from any light source and will run for months on a brief charge of sunlight. The light receptor are part of the dial, any light source will charge the battery. It sports a nice recessed convex crystal. Both the hands and hour numerals glow in the dark, on most Seiko watches just the hands and indeces glos. Clean, simple, comfortable, and technologically very cool.

Square Seiko Chronograph

Seiko Chronograph Automatic. Square! For me that is one of the coolest features of this watch. The colors of the dial are striking and the chrono function allows me to time something that last more than just 30 or 60 minutes. Man, I dont think any of my watches get me so many good comments, not even the OM. I have wanted a really nice chrono for a long time. My 6138 just whet my appetite, that led to this one. Man, I’m hooked … this could get expensive.

Seiko Kinetic

This was my first real nice watch. One that I lusted after before I received it. I had seen the Kinetics in magazines and wanted one real bad. They reminded me of my fathers old Seiko automatic he purchased in Japan while in the service. In Christmas 1996, I received this watch as a present. I wore this watch nonstop until 2000.

TV Screen Seiko 5

This is the only Seiko 5’s I own. I love the TV screen shape and the polished stainless steel around the face. Its a good, dashed watch. The gold hour markers are raised, adding a nice depth to the face.

Seiko Perpetual Calendar

This watch was a present from my wife in 2001. We were on our honeymoon in San Francisco at Christmas when she gave it to me. It’s all Titanium, super light and really comfortable to wear. Once you set the Calendar it doesnt need to be reset until the year 2100. The face appears black at times but is actually dark grey. I love the band, it has a reptilian look to it.

Seiko Sealion M55

This was a lunch money buy off the bay. It’s dressy and I love the sunburst dial and the caseback has a picture of a Sealion. Unfortunately the case needs to be replated. This watch was loved and worn a lot by the previous owner(s). I wore this watch on the day I was married. It was the most dressy watch in the collection at the time. For that reason its part of the permanent collection.

Seiko Sportsmatic SilverWave

Has a rotating inner bezel to track time under water. It has a picture of a wave on the caseback. The SilverWave was one of the first divers Seiko made. This watch wasn’t exactly lunch money but I got it cheap because it needs work. I haven’t set aside the funds to fix it yet but it will be beautiful when I do, a definite keeper. Here is a link to some great info from Ryan (who sold me my Sports 200), unfortunately the http://www.farbelow.net/pics are missing. Ryan is missing too, havent heard from him in a long while… Link

Seiko Sports 200

My crown jewel. This watch has a beautiful shine to it. The dial is actually grey and is extremely detailed. The seconds had sweeps like none other in my collection. It has an outer rotating bezel with compass markings that can be used to get a bearing. This watch uses the high beat 4s15 movement that hacks, is hand windable and very accurate for an automatic. Seiko uses the 4s15 movement in its very high end watches. For many collectors this is an economical way to own a very high grade Seiko. Here is a great review of the Alpinist, which is the same as this watch except for the dial and caseback. Check sidebar for more info on the Alpinist and 4s series movement.

Seiko Sportsman

I purchased this watch off the bay for $12! I had it cleaned up and wore it as my daily for about 6 months straight, for a long time no other watch in my collection could get any wrist time. This is a manual wind watch that still keeps great time. I love looking at the face its simple and beautiful. This picture doesn’t do the watch justice. Its an old man watch, but definitely a classic. I would have dated the watch to the 60’s, but after doing some research I found it actually dates to the 1970’s. This one is part of the “permanent collection.”

Square Seiko 6602

This is a manual wind watch. Can be tough to wind due to the small crown, but it keeps good time. Cool retro look, its all original, I put a leather band on it. This was a lunch money buy on the bay. I love the raised horizontal hour markers and raised crystal. It survived the great purge of 2003, I must really like it.

Seiko Orange Monster Diver

This one was on my wish list at one time. I purchased it used from another collector on SCTF. After I purchased it, my brother in law liked it so much I sold it to him. But I wasn’t really ready for it to go and he ended up selling it back. That made me very happy, ’cause I love the beast. You never forget you are wearing it, because its so heavy. It looks so beefy and rugged on the wrist and its soo orange it can clash with my clothes.

Seiko 6138 Chronograph

Picked this watch up cheap (for a chrono) off the web. The face has a blemish, from where somesone went overboard with black paint. I really like this watch anyway, its a nice size on my wrist and the Kanji day wheel just makes me smile everytime I look at it. I dont fret over this watch and I just wear it and enjoy.

Seiko Submariner 100M

This is one of two diver’s in the collection. I purchased it early on before I realized how nice the 200M’s were. The watch came with a SS bracelet which made the watch extremely heavy. I put it on a “kevlar” band to give it a sporty look, and happily its also much more wearable. This is a watch I wear when Im going to do work like help someone move or washing the truck. I like that I dont have to worrry about it. Since its a diver I dont care if it gets wet either.

Seiko SUS Alarm Chronograph

This watch was on my dream watch list at one point. I looked at it over and over and decided to get it. Its a lot smaller than I had expected. What strikes me when I look at the watch is how the mechanical precision that is necessary for all watches seems to really come through in this watch. Also, the face is a beautiful shade of blue that almost seems to have a pearl-essence to it. Beyond that, the SUS line is famous and highly sought after, this watch lives up to that line.

Seiko Champion 860

I was looking to give my Sportsman some company. I bought more than one before I found one I was happy with. This watch isn’t in museum worthy shape, and for that reason I almost passed. Now I am happy I didnt. This is a classy watch and looks great on the rice bead band I took off another watch. This one is here to stay!

Seiko Nooka

This one was on my batter up list in v3 of the webpage. Over Christmas of ‘04 I found it on sale at Amazon for $129 and I knew it was destiny. Nice big chunky watch. Pics up scratches very easy, and doesn’t have a chrono function. But it gets lots of looks and comments. Yes, its a fashion watch but I’m happy with the purchase. Haven’t been able to take a picture yet, so here is a borrowed one.
