Lotsa TWiT and a li’l TWiM

Just heard at the end of the latest TWiT, that is This Week in Tech for the unintiated that they had redesigned the TWiT.tv website. So I figure this is a good time to point the uninitiated to the site. This site really is all about Leo Laporte and his vaunted media (well audio mostly) conglomerate. Its basically a one stop shop for people to keep up with all the various podcasts and vidcasts that Leo either co/hosts or endorses. If you have never heard of the flagship podcast, the one that got it all started TWiT, let me give you an intro. You probably guessed but Leo gets 4 or 5 friends around and talk about tech related news of the week. I listen to it religiously, as much for the different personalities as the news or the analyzing of said. The hosts are Leo Laporte, David Prager, Robert Heron, and John C. Dvorak plus suprise guests everyweek.

I have been a fan of Leo since he was on the much missed TechTV, where he hosted two shows, my favorite of which was The Screen Savers. Leo still hosts Call For Help on G4 TechTV in Canada. He does a great job making technology fun, understandable and amazingly I always learn something! TechTV still has a lot of fans eventhough it was purchased and basically killed in the US by G4. Many of the past hosts of TechTV shows have gone on to big things … ever heard of a little website named Digg? or how about Chris Pirillo and Gnomedex? or DigitalLife TV?.

Now about that TWiM: I had never heard of this podcast so I gave it a try. From the site:

Each week Alex Lindsay and other experts in content creation and the media get together to discuss the week’s developments. If you want to know why movies cost so much, why HD-DVD is having trouble getting off the ground, or how the special effects were created for the latest Hollywood Blockbuster this is the show for you.

Now, I dont think this podcast is for me, but nevermind I have a hard enough time keeping up with the 9 other weekly podcasts that he puts up. Short Alex Lindsay bio from his site here.

So if you havent heard of Leo or his podcasts, skip on over and check one out you dont have to be a geek btw, just have an interest in technology.

… oh yeah if you are a hard core geek and havent heard of TWiT, stop trying to get Debian to work with that Panasonic laptop (w/Kanji keys, natch) and take a listen- you WILL enjoy it.
