BitTorrent
Right, so lets talk about BitTorrents. Lets start with what it is, for the uninitiated. If you knew what Napster was your most of the way to understanding. But, instead of getting one file from one person’s shared folder you get pieces of files from many people. This way, the sharing load is distributed. BitTorrent is made for large files, like video, ISO’s (image files of whole cd’s), etc. If you remember the days of Napster, you could download a bunch of files and then hide them, so you didnt have to share back. With BT, you are encouraged to share. While you are downloading a file, you are sharing it with others, the more you share, the quicker your download goes. After you finish downloading, you continue to share the file with others for a short while.
What can you get from BT and where? Well, first you need the client. There are many clients, for a list you can look here, or here or here. You may need to punch a hole in your router to speed up connections, look here to know how, they have how to’s for port forwarding based on the type of router you have. Now that you have your client, you will be looking for good stuff. Here is a great Torrent Search engine that allows you to search many search engines. Ive just come across this nice search engine for just TV shows. I use the client from the creator of BT, his site is here, the site also has a search engine and good info.
Alright, get out there. The Internet is about freedom. Find that TV show from Britain or Canada that you cant get here, download it, burn it to DVD.
