Harry Potter

Went to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire last night. I thought there would be a bigger line to see it downtown at the Gaslamp Theatre, but happily there wasn’t. The movie was fun to watch and action packed. The dragon that Harry has to fight, in the first trial was wicked. This series has moved far from being for little kids. Geli believes its probably too scary for them. The director seemed to try to move the story along pretty fast. Unfortunately, for me there just wasn’t enough story. They did hint at some budding romances, like Ron and Hermione wanting to go to a dance together, but Ron couldn’t come up with the courage to ask her out (seriously anyway).
Some of the coolest parts of the movie went too quickly, like the World Cup of Quiddich (aka Mundial). Three scenes and you were out of their. Maybe its just that it has been so long since I was with the characters, that I wanted to know more about them. Thankfully Malfoy only had a few scenes, he bugs.
But the stand out performance has to be Ralph (pronounced Raif?, whatever) Fiennes as Voldemort. He was enthralling and intensely evil. He could have made the character more shallow, but went all out instead. The makeup was cool, the way he had two slits for his nose, and he seemed only partly formed. It was like he wasnt baked enough. In the end, the boy wonder came through with a little help from his friends. Shocking ending? Of coarse not. But I left the theatre happy I had spent the time and money. Check it out.
